TV Tuesday: GBBO

It's no secret that The Great British Bake Off has taken the UK, and the world, by storm. And I am not an exception. I am obsessed. I am in love. It is my favourite show of the whole year, bar Downton Abbey which is equally as fabulous, and I simply cannot get enough of it.

The opening show of this series raked in over 7 million viewers. 7 MILLION. Can you believe it?!? 7 million people all sitting down in their homes with a mug of tea just to watch a baking competition. As some of you might know I am a great lover of baking and decorating. For heavens sake I wouldn't be the President of my university's cake decorating society if I didn't.

But it isn't just any baking competition. It is the creme de la creme of cakes, biscuits, bread. It is the the showcase of British baking talent. And we as the nation are consumed.
Baking is not just a different form of cooking. It requires skill and knowledge and a desperate love of all things flour, egg and butter related. A fine craft that is the definition of edible art. I mean did you see Richard's biscuit creation. That wouldn't have looked out of place at the Tate or the Met.

So let's just say this. I will be tuning in tomorrow at 8pm BBC One. I will have a cup of tea and a few biscuits. And I will love every minute of it.

This weeks fashion friday will be going up on Saturday, as well as my usual saturday post, as I am going to be at my Aunts and she is not so au fait with the internet.

September Wishlist

The transition from summer to autumn fashion is always a tricky one: trying to hold onto what ever tan you gained during the brief sunshine whilst also not freezing to death as the cold dark nights draw in. But the good thing about September is that moment just before coats and hats and scarfs and earmuffs and all the cosy things of winter, is the brief moment of joy at still being able to get your legs out and put on your sunglasses on... even if you might get some questionable looks.

So here is my September wishlist. I say wishlist with a heavy emphasis as my bank account is not looking quite so fabulous right now. I need a job. I'm loving pastel blues and soft tones. Think club monaco meets flower power. St Tropez and the English countryside.

Why are we so afraid of the hairdresser?

We go to the doctor, the dentist, the opticians and we're more than happy to see anyone that's available. But the minute it comes to seeing the hairdresser, the mere thought of seeing just 'anyone' invokes fear and panic into our hearts.

Before today, I hadn't had my hair cut for 6 months. 6 LONG MONTHS OF SPLIT ENDS AND UNEVEN FRINGE... not at all because I tried to do it myself a few months back. When will I learn? My hairdresser is the best of the best. He's amazing at his job and for that reason, I don't ever want to try anyone else. So when I heard he was selling his salon and giving up hairdressing for a few months, I could have cried. Who was going to cut my hair? Who was going to make me feel fabulous? Who was going to give me that Cheryl Cole blow-dry?! Luckily, he's had a change of heart. PHEW!

There's always the fear that a new hairdresser will do something completely radical, like dye your hair pink whilst you're not looking. Or hack the whole thing off and laugh evilly as they run off into the darkness. Well not quite but you get the idea. But I honestly don't get why. It's hair. Dead cells growing out the top of our head that we style and cut and dye. And hair regrows, thats why we need it cut in the first place. So even if someone did dye it pink and then hack it all off, it would grow back!

Hair is a reflection of ourselves. We style it to represent ourselves, our values, what we want for the future. You wouldn't go to a job interview with greasy straggly hair and expect to get the job. A radical style can reflect a radical view point. Think the long wavy hair of the 60's free love movement or David Bowie's Alladin Sane. It's who we are.

So that brings me to today. This is my hair cut.
If you check yesterdays fashion friday, my hair doesn't look that different. I had some shaping around the front and tidying up of the ends (and a fabulous blow dry and curls). But I didn't trust anyone else to do that. It HAD to be MY hairdresser.

We're so afraid that someone new won't be able to do what we want. But if we just loosen up a little bit, maybe we'll get a new style, a new way to present ourselves to the world and maybe we'll be better for it.

You didn't think I'd actually be able to do it, did ya? Well look who's here writing another post.

Let's kick off my first fashion friday with a what I wore today. Today I had work, my final day in the office which was sad and brilliant. It really has been the best experience. The office is smart casual so I opted for this little number.

Cardigan: Primark
Top: Topshop (in stock now... yes I bought this yesterday)
Skirt: Topshop
Shoes: Primark
Bracelet: Accessorize
Ribbon: From a birthday present a couple years ago. Don't judge me.

I actually really liked this outfit. It was super comfortable and kind've warm because the office gets FREEZING oh my goodness so this was a good option for today.

NOW LET'S LOOK AT MY FACE.

FACE:
Foundation: Rimmel match perfection - 010 light porcelain
Concealer: Collection lasting perfection - 1 fair
Powder: Rimmel Stay matte - 001 Transparent
Bronzer: Benefit hoola

2) I like rimmel

Now it's the evening and I'm going over to my friends house because it's her birthday (happy birthday jenny) and she'd like me to do her makeup! What a lovely friend I am

It's probably time to sort my life out...

For the past two weeks I've been working at a PR agency and it's made me realise that PR is where I want to be when I leave Uni. Or at least I think I do. When I was 5 I wanted to be a Princess. And since I don't see that coming true any time soon, a girls gotta earn a living somehow.

So that's where we come to blogging. I haven't blogged since February. It won't seem very long for you since it's just below this post. Feel free to have a look, I can't even remember what it says. (EDIT: Turns out I blogged in July... maybe that virgin pina colada wasn't so virgin afterall) but for me so much has changed in the past 6 months and it is time to *drum roll* SORT MY LIFE OUT.

So I bought an organiser. Because how else can you possibly even begin to deal with life?

(side note: best coaster ever)
After a bit of googling and shock at how much organisers actually cost (oh my god filofax) I bought this bad boy from Paperchase for just £14.40! ... Well I got student discount but still.

So here it is;

I, Ally Brett, hereby vow to blog 4 times a week.

Mondays - Home Style and every final monday of the month a fashion wishlist
Tuesday - TV Tuesdays
Friday - Fashion Friday
Saturday - thoughts, opinions, reviews... something I haven't quite thought of. Fuck. I probably should plan ahead.

So there you go. I am going to be spamming your feed, bloglovin, google+ whatever it be ya. Get ready. I had better get ready. I dont think I am. HELP!

See you soon. I hope.
